Fostering Exchange and Collaboration Across the UN and Beyond
UN Entities, governments and international organisations outside of the UN have identified key needs to enable uptake of behavioural science. These objectives are based on the findings of a survey of 25 UN Entities and 12 governments and international organisations with behavioural science experience outside the UN. For more details see the UN Behavioural Science Report.

We work to progress these objectives through the following services and offerings:

The World Bank
1. Fostering exchange & collaboration across the UN & beyond
We facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration, raise awareness of behavioural science work, promote peer-to-peer exchange, and foster partnerships by bringing external views into the UN.
We routinely engage with behavioural science practitioners in member states, academia, international organisations outside of the UN, among others. Building internal and external behavioural science networks increases the UN’s ability to respond to urgent issues.

2. UN Behavioural Science Thought Leadership
We publish guidance on behavioural science topics and methods, and support UN Entities in sharing their work through publications such as the UN Behavioural Science Review.
We also maintain an online repository of projects to develop UN best practice and learning from experiences.

3. Supporting UN Entities in applying behavioural science
We support behavioural science application and lead the design and delivery of projects in partnership with UN Entities.

The UN Behavioural Science Fellowship Programme links UN Entities with behavioural scientists from the Global North and South who lead projects and upskill colleagues via “learning by doing”.

4. Learning & capacity building at working & senior levels
We provide a virtual and in-person behavioural science learning programme for UN working and senior levels.
The programme covers introductory areas, specific policy topics identified by Entities and more tailored support on how to embed behavioural science into UN Entities’ work.

5. Supporting UN Entities with embedding behavioural science
We support UN Entities by helping scope and prioritise projects, hire specialists, connect with academic partners, and design and implement projects, based on UN Entity capabilities and project needs. In short, we help Entities develop and implement plans for sustained behavioural science application.
We also engage with UN senior leadership to enhance understanding of the value add of behavioural science, as well as help develop and realise concrete plans to apply behavioural science in their organisations.
